Web MD -- THC and another marijuana-derived compound slow the spread of cervical and lung cancers, test-tube studies suggest.
The new findings add to the fast-growing number of animal and cell-culture studies showing different anticancer effects for cannabinoids, chemical compounds derived from marijuana.

Cannabinoids, and sometimes marijuana itself, are currently used to lessen the nausea and pain experienced by many cancer patients. The new findings -- yet to be proven in human studies -- suggest that cannabinoids may have a direct anticancer effect.

"Cannabinoids' ... potential therapeutic benefit in the treatment of highly invasive cancers should be addressed in clinical trials," conclude Robert Ramer, PhD, and Burkhard Hinz, PhD, of the University of Rostock, Germany.

Might cannabinoids keep dangerous tumors from spreading throughout the body? Ramer and Hinz set up an experiment in which invasive cervical and lung cancer cells had make their way through a tissue-like gel. Even at very low concentrations, the marijuana compounds THC and methanandamide (MA) significantly slowed the invading cancer cells.

Doses of THC that reduce pain in cancer patients yield blood concentrations much higher than the concentrations needed to inhibit cancer invasion.

"Thus the effects of THC on cell invasion occurred at therapeutically relevant concentrations," Ramer and Hinz note.

The researchers are quick to point out that much more study is needed to find out whether these test-tube results apply to tumor growth in animals and in humans.

Ramer and Hinz report the findings in the Jan. 2, 2008 issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

Got my ass handed to me last night at the HPT event. Congrats to Ittolm for finishing first and Byron (biggestron) for coming in 2nd. I think this is the 2nd time Byron has come in 2nd. I got lucky and got to sit with him for most of the night.

All 4 Bloggers made the final table after about 2 1/2 hours of play. I had been nursing a short stack after Byron chased me to the river calling a big bet on the turn mumbling something about odds and Catching on the river. so I limped to the final table but could get no love and ended up 9th. Played well just couldn't get any cards or get it in first.

The Hpt Tour is having another Tourney tonight. There will be 4 Bloggers there tonight with Rake Feeder, Biggerston and Poker Dave with myself being 4. I also have a old family friend coming so this should be a fun night with meeting another local blogger. PokerDave is coming maybe someday I will get to meet the other Dave from Mass or Sir Waffles.


Fun game lots of bad players but quite a few good ones. The host gives us a Good structure to start. so dealing with the good players which Rakefeeder and Biggestro are 2 and the host is another. there are a few utterly terrible players also. I mean these folks make us bloggers look like geniuses.

Calling all the way down with bottom pair on a flushed board Priceless, But you also can't bluff the UnBluffable and there are a few of them there. But isn't that what you really want people who will put it in with the worst just cause they feel lucky? You know the ones they play almost every hand. There's always atleast 1 in every game.

But then having to deal with Players like RakeFeeder and Biggestro and Ittolm (the host) and Dave among others is tough too. Biggestro is Good I had to suckout on him last time. Funny thing is I didn't even know till he pointed it out to me. Thanks B.

The NFL just sent out the following announcement regarding the Patriots-Giants game:

The NFL has arranged with broadcast television partners CBS and NBC for an unprecedented three-way national simulcast of the NFL Network telecast of Saturday night’s New England Patriots at New York Giants game when the Patriots will try to become the first NFL team to go 16-0 in a regular season, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced today.

“We have taken this extraordinary step because it is in the best interest of our fans,” Commissioner Goodell said. “What we have seen for the past year is a very strong consumer demand for NFL Network. We appreciate CBS and NBC delivering the NFL Network telecast on Saturday night to the broad audience that deserves to see this potentially historic game. Our commitment to the NFL Network is stronger than ever.”

CBS and NBC will carry the NFL Network feed of the game with Bryant Gumbel and Cris Collinsowrth in the broadcast booth. The game also will be televised by WCVB-ABC (Channel 5) in Boston, WMUR-ABC in Manchester, New Hampshire (Channel 9) and WWOR (Channel 9) in New York. The telecast begins at 8 p.m. ET with kickoff set at 8:15 p.m. ET.

This will be the first three-network simulcast in NFL history and the first simulcast of any kind of an NFL game since Super Bowl I in 1967 when CBS and NBC both televised the first meeting of the champions of the newly merged National Football League and American Football League. CBS was the network partner of the NFL at that time and NBC televised the AFL. In that first Super Bowl – in which the NFL Green Bay Packers beat the AFL Kansas City Chiefs 35-10 in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on January 15, 1967 – Ray Scott, Jack Whitaker and Frank Gifford called the game for CBS while Curt Gowdy and Paul Christman broadcast the game on NBC.

Against the 10-5 playoff-bound Giants, the 15-0 Patriots on Saturday night will seek to become the first NFL team to complete an unbeaten regular season since the Miami Dolphins went 14-0 in 1972. The Dolphins proceeded to win three more games, including Super Bowl VII, to finish 17-0 for the only perfect season in NFL history. The NFL regular season was expanded to 16 games in 1978.

But a few of the largest cable companies have refused to carry NFL Network on their most broadly distributed and affordable packages.

“NFL Network is a programming service of great interest to fans and should be broadly distributed by the cable industry,” said NFL Network President and CEO Steve Bornstein. “The only channel devoted 24/7 to America’s favorite sport is not programming that should be relegated to a poorly promoted, pay-extra sports tier that takes advantage of our fans’ passion for the NFL. A few of the biggest cable operators have refused to negotiate. We call on them to do what’s right for their consumers and negotiate agreements for NFL Network that make sense for everybody.”

I am still amazed it took the NFL this long to cave and show this game to everyone.
Since up until this afternoon if you didn't get the NFL network you were fucked.

That Meant both my Brothers, one who lives in LA and one in Burlington Vermont, would be missing this Historic Game. It's Not like the Patriots are going to lose so everyone should be watching.

My Perfect scenario played out yesterday with the #1 seed losing in the 2nd round.
His team shattered the season records for points. But a Bad week for Brady and Moss and Stallworth and he is out and Crying like a Little girl.

Boycott the Math and Go Patriots

I was just going to sign up for the MATH but once again hoy has decided to change the structure to his liking. Which In general I have no problem with but there is the BBT2 going on and I keep waiting for a $215 math tourney from him for the Math then only the ones who can afford it can take a shot at a TOC seat.

I don't get why he can't leave it the way it had been for ohh the last year or so. But now suddenly during a competition he wants to change it every week. I know I am not the only one who feels this way since when he asked for opinions alot of people said leave it alone till the end of the BBT2.

Every Tourney other than the MATH has been NL holdem all the way thru But All of a sudden hoy decides to change it up? Maybe he is trying to give himself a better shot by choosing games he is better at to get a coveted TOC seat???

So I will be Boycotting the Math tonight 6 max is not a game I am good at. I am actually bad at every game but just worse at 6max so I will skip it.

I had no Internet last night. I finally called and Was told My MODEM was broken and needed to be replaced. This morning I wake up and It is Magically fixed. I think the Charter Telephone Reps are fucking Morons. It is sad that I know more about troubleshooting than they do.

NO NFL for me.

I live in one of the 74 million homes that won't get to watch the NFL game today.
I think the NFL is making a big mistake not showing these games. I hope the Patriots are 15-0 since the last game is on the NFL network that game will be missed by alot of people.

Played the Riverchasers last night and for a change I played alfway decent. ended up going out 19th when it all when in with AJ verus AJs versus TT. AJs rivered a 4 flush to take the whole pot.

Now here is my thought on the hand. TT raised AJs called and I pushed the TT hand instantly called but I was surprised the other AJ would call off the rest of thier stack in that position.

with a raise and a push I was surprised that AJs would call with 2 pushes in front of them.
atleast i made the points but disapointed in my finish.

Going to Foxwoods with RakeFeeder today for some Limit Donkage.
it should be packed today with it being the day after a holiday and with all the college students home.

Yes the Patriots are Good, Real Fucking good. It drives me insane to hear People that are supposed to know about football suggest that the Patriots are running up the score.

Tom Brady was on the radio today and he was stating that he has only worked with Randy Moss for 10 games. Moss sat out the entire preseason. He also stated that they are trying to get better.
Better you ask? YES they want to be better. That is why they go for it on 4 and 1 because they might actually be in that situation in a meaningful game and practice makes perfect.

Maybe they should take him out earlier you say. Well what happens when they actually need to play a full game Like against Indy. These are Finely tuned Machines and they need to Play a full game 60 minutes or they lose their conditioning.

My only Regret was not ordering more but I was trying to have a light lunch.

      My Oldest Wonkette turns 9 today. I am continually baffled how this Happened since it seems like she
was just born Yesterday. I am sure most Parents of young children say the same thing. But still it is amazing when
they No Longer think they Need you for everything.

Gone are the Days when she would ask me to tie her shoes.

Gone are the Days when she thought I was the Most Handsome Boy in the world where she wanted to hold my Hand. Now I am not supposed to hug her or actually acknowledge her in public when she is with her friends.

Gone are the Days when she thought I was Cool and hip and could dance.


When they are Little all we wish for is they would get bigger but Now I wish they would stay small since My little girl is growing up.

I Tell Both of them That I love them every day atleast once if not 10 times.
